This Samhain, we gather fireside for a two-hour ceremony of poetry, ritual, and guided meditation exploring how body and spirit have carried each other since your first breath — and how they know how to separate safely, with grace, when the time comes. We meet on the one night the veil between worlds is said to be thinnest, when the harvest closes and the dark half of the year begins — the night our ancestors and loved ones can cross back to us freely. We open around the fire with cacao, a ceremonial plant medicine long used to soften and open the heart. Taken with intention, it quiets the noise of the mind and draws us out of our heads and into felt, embodied presence. We begin this way on purpose: arriving at the unwinding with an open heart lets us go further into it — past thought and into feeling, which is where this work actually lives. From there, we move into a guided meditation — breathing into the heart, the lungs, the brain, the gut, and the skin, then into each of the five senses in turn. We trace how these two partners, body and spirit, have carried each other through life, and how they know how to separate safely, with grace, when the time comes.
This unique Death Class Series is an eight-week live cohort built for the people already doing death work — death doulas, death guides, and medical clinicians — who are ready to deepen the knowledge they carry into the room. Rather than teaching these groups separately, this cohort brings them together to learn the exact same foundational information: the biology and physiology of dying, and the medical model’s truths, myths, rights, and choices. When clinicians and death workers share one common body of knowledge instead of two overlapping-but-different understandings, they stop working in parallel and start working hand in hand — bridging the clinical and the sacred instead of treating them as opposing forces.
Body and Spirit, The Sacred Unwinding- a two hour death ceremony- poetry, breath, connection and a guided meditation, exploring how the body and spirit have carried each other since your first breath, and how they know how to separate safely, with ease and grace, when the time comes. An invitation to build a bridge between body and spirit, light and dark, birth and death.
